A Political Discussion Guide

A Political Discussion Guide

So we are fully in the political season and it seems that everyone has strong opinions.  I know I do.  I generally keep my views to myself unless I think the topic can be discussed in a respectful and productive way.  With that in mind, here is my guide for successful political conversations:

  1. Be respectful.  Always.

  2. Listen.

  3. Don't try to win.  Go into the discussion trying to learn something instead of trying to convince the person you are talking to that you are right.

  4. Discuss the candidate or the issue and not the character of the person you are talking to.

  5. Have your own opinion and be able to defend it with research you've done.  Admit when you are at the edge of your knowledge and do more research if needed.

If you'd like to discuss the topics of the day give me a call and we can meet for coffee.  I'm sure that it has been too long since we've seen each other and this is a good excuse to do so.
