So you've made it through Christmas and New Years and resolutions and all that jazz. You've still got at least 3 to 4 more months of cold weather to look forward to. So what can you do in the Inland Northwest to escape the winter doldrums?
The answer is simple really: go to Sandpoint, ID to the historic Panida Theater to take in the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour. (What? Did you think I was going to say go skiing or snowboarding?) Eyes rolling.
Yes, this is ultimately the answer to all of our problems, including the long winter nights. Prepare to laugh, hoot, holler, be amazed, and maybe even shed a tear.
The variety of films shown on the Banff Mt. Film Festival World Tour, are varied, artistic, engaging, and uplifting. These films showcase the best of the best in outdoor adventure films from all around the world.
The show originates in the fall at the Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada. Each year thousands flock to the mountains to take part in the Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival. The culmination of this 9 day festival in Banff, Alberta, Canada is the world tour, which has a very important stop in Sandpoint, ID.
Which brings me back to the title of this blog and I'm realizing the circular nature of writing is akin to the circle of life. OK maybe not, it may just be the after affects of another wonderful Spokane to Sandpoint Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour pilgrimage.
You may wonder, why Sandpoint, ID? Well if you see the film elsewhere and dare to compare, you will ultimately understand that there's a special energy, aura if you will, that pervades the film viewing experience while in the northern reaches of the Idaho Panhandle.
The Sandpoint crowd is fun, gracious and a great mix of ages, outdoor experience, and overall enthusiasm. It's why I keep going back year after year and why I will continue to return each January. Of course the pinnacle trek will be to spend all 9 days in Banff, Alberta, Canada, at the source. However, until that happens I'm more than happy to join my fellow outdoor adventure enthusiasts in Sandpoint for beer, wine, and great film viewing.
For more information about the tour calendar, click here. The world tour encompasses over 500 screenings on all continents (yes, even Antarctica) so there's a good chance there's a screening near you!
