You would think this would be common knowledge but apparently I missed the memo that mattresses aren't heavy enough to survive the freeway. Let me give you a quick personal story so that next time you take matters into your own hand and use a pickup truck, you will invest in rope and bungees.
I recently signed a lease on a new place and asked my parents to help me move my obscenely heavy pillow-top queen mattress. We all assumed the mattress would be heavy enough to hold down the box-spring and bed frame so we just put it all in the bed of the truck and hit the freeway.
I was following behind my parents in my mom's car and making sure that everything went smoothly. Well...smooth wouldn't be how I would describe it. Just as I'm hitting about 70 on the freeway I see the mattress, box spring and bed-frame fly out of the bed of the truck and land in front of my car, throwing sparks all over the place, bringing me from 70 to 0 in about 3 seconds flat.
Mind you at this point i'm dead stop in the middle of the right hand lane of the freeway and it's about 7 o'clock in the evening so it's dark out. Out of pure shock I am just stuck cold sitting in my car in the middle of the freeway when suddenly I look in my rearview mirror and see headlights approaching at full speed. Mind you these are not just headlights, these are headlights that belong to a semi.
So basically I think, well, I'm about to die, when about a split second before he hits me he swerves into the field to the right of the freeway, keeping me all in one piece and alive to write this blog for you lovely people.
So then, as i'm STILL just sitting in my car in the middle of the freeway, the semi driver jumps out of his truck and throws my mattress out of the middle of the freeway with one hand. It's possible he was the hulk with the pure strength he exerted to throw the mattress. At that point he looks as me like i'm the dumbest person he has ever encountered and yells at me to get my car out of the middle of the freeway.
So moral of the story, ALWAYS tie down your mattress. Should you chose to follow in my footsteps you will have one traumatized mother and a very dirty mattress with some undesirable burn marks.

"Jessica helped us sell our house after it was listed for only 1 day! She has excellent communication skills and is very professional. I highly recommend her services. She made a very stressful situation (a short sale) easier, mainly due to her experience in this unique (to our times and economy) realtor's niche. "
