Exercising Your Dog On The North Side Of Town
Dated: April 18 2015
The greater Spokane area is a fantastic place to spoil your pooch. There's plenty of trails and parks full of squirrels and deer which keep the doggies on the prowl and having a great time.
I have two standard poodles. One large black male named Magic who is almost 5 years old, and a younger white 1 year old female named Bella Luna. In Italian that means beautiful moon. One of our favorite places to hike is Pend Oreille County park. It's just north of Spokane County as you first enter into Pend Oreille County off Newport Highway on the left hand side. You'll see the signs.
There's several different trails ranging from under a mile, to about 4.5 miles. The longer trail is called "The Big Sky Loop" and has some beautiful real estate. The view of Elk from the top of the hill is breathtaking. It starts out a bit steep and tests your fitness, but is far from being dangerous. You can definitely take it slower if you're a bit out of shape, especially early in the season. There's a couple spots where the dogs and I rest and enjoy the vistas. Although bears are rare, there have been occasional bear sightings in the park so remember to bring your bear spray just in case.
Be sure to bring plenty of water and snacks for both you and your dogs. I'll have a blog on what I think are the safest and most nutritious snacks for your dog. Enjoy your time with your doggies. Woof Woof!!!
