Lookout Pass FREE Ski School

Skiing has always been considered a highly expensive sport to participate in and especially if you have a family.  However, two ski seasons ago we found what I think to be one of the best ski opportunities in the Inland Northwest and Eastern Washington.

Lookout Pass Ski Area

Two massive benefits that we found at Lookout.

  1. They sell a family season ski pass that we found more affordable than some other area mountains charge for a single person.
  2. As the self proclaimed "Most Family Friendly Ski Resort" they offer free ski lessons every Saturday starting in mid-January through Early March.

I know right… FREE ski lessons for the kids every Saturday for TWELVE WEEKS.  Sure they are group lessons but come on.  My kids are learning how to ski.

I found ski rentals at The Sports Authority in Spokane Valley for under $90 for the whole season (Boots, Bindings, Skis and Poles) add on the cost of the season pass and we were at around $200.00 for unlimited skiing plus the free lessons.  Obviously I was sold.

To get these prices you have to be ready to pull the trigger in the pre-season which means buying your season pass starting in March and getting down to The Sports Authority in September.  As a side note however, I found out that if you buy your season pass in March you get to ski the rest of the ski season free on your new pass.  (That is how it worked two years ago anyway)

My final comments on Lookout Pass ski area are as follows:

It is a small mountain.  Advanced skiers will eat up the mountain on day one… but for kids, it is awesome because they don't wear out as fast.

LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION…  Being in real estate I get this.  The resort parking lot is literally off Exit 0 on I-90 at the Montana Idaho border and because it is Freeway driving the whole way it is literally less than 90 minutes from Spokane to get to the lodge parking which is also FREE.  I know it sounds crazy to drive from Spokane, Washington to the Montana/Idaho border but again we are talking an hour and a half.  That is less than a commute home in California… I'm just saying.

OK so if you are living in the Spokane area or you are moving to the Spokane area and Skiing is you deal (or you want it to be) you really need to check out the Lookout Pass Ski Area and give it a run.
